The Guardians of the Peaks: The Kastoor Deer The architect of this legendary scent is the Himalayan Musk Deer (Moschus chrysogaster), known locally as the Kastoor Mriga. These solitary, reclusive creatures are perfectly adapted to the treacherous, high-altitude ridges of the Himalayas, living at elevations of 2,500 to 4,500 meters. Lacking antlers, the males are famously distinguished by elongated, saber-like canine teeth and, most notably, the pod that secretes the precious musk. For centuries, this creature has been shrouded in myth. It is said in ancient lore that the musk deer, intoxicated by the divine fragrance wafting through the mountains, spends its entire life running frantically across the peaks to find the source of the scent, entirely unaware that the treasure originates from within its own being.

Maaya’s blends are created through the traditional hydro-distillation of these natural materials into a carrier oil.

• Opening/Top Notes - A raw, dark opening that is bold, slightly earthy, and pungent.
• Heart Notes - The scent settles into a warm, woody, and resinous blend, softened by a touch of spice or powdery undertones.
• Base Notes - A rich, highly animalic finish characterized by a sensual, toffee-ish golden amber and deep musk that lingers for days.

INGRIDENTS – At Maaya we use plant-derived musk notes (such as Ambrette seed oil), frankincense oil, pure sandalwood oil. 

BLENDS WELL WITH – Agarwood (Oud) oil, Ruh Gulab (Damask Rose), ambergris oil.

SEASON - Winter (Best) the cold weather amplifies the rich, primal, and woody notes of the musk without it becoming cloying.
