Born from the sun-drenched soils of Rajasthan, the Jaipur Rose is a wonder of intense fragrance and velvety crimson petals. Before the break of dawn, while the dew still clings to the blooms, these roses are hand-picked at the peak of their scent. They are immediately transported to Kannauj, the perfume capital of India, where time stands still. Here, master artisans employ the ancient Deg-Bhakka method—a traditional hydro-distillation process using copper vessels (degs) and bamboo pipes. Over a slow wood fire, without any modern machinery or chemicals, the steam carrying the soul of the rose is captured and condensed into a base of pure, sustainably sourced sandalwood oil. It takes thousands of kilos of petals to yield just a fraction of this precious liquid, making it a true labor of devotion.
Rose attar is a living fragrance that evolves beautifully on the skin:
- Fragrance profile: A bright, crisp burst of fresh morning dew, green crushed leaves, and a honey-like sweetness that feels instantly uplifting.
- Heart Notes: The deep, opulent, and unmistakably rich aroma of a full-bloom Jaipur rose—sensual, velvety, and deeply romantic.
- Base Notes: A smooth, warm, and creamy finish of sacred sandalwood. As the rose softens, the sandalwood grounds it, creating an earthy, soulful trail that lasts for hours.

Nur Jahan’s ghost still walks the garden space, Leaving a trail of elegance and grace.
One drop upon the skin, the past awakes: A scent of empires that the spirit takes.
The Emperor’s Garden: A Mughal Heritage
While the roots of Indian perfumery stretch back to antiquity, it was during the Mughal Empire that rose attar was elevated into an art form of unmatched luxury. The Mughals were deeply obsessed with gardens, flowers, and symmetry, viewing nature as a reflection of paradise on earth. Historical legend credits Empress Nur Jahan, the brilliant and artistic wife of Emperor Jahangir, with the of the method to isolate pure rose oil. As the story goes, while walking through the palace gardens, she noticed a fragrant, oily film floating on the surface of the warm water channels filled with rose petals. Intrigued, she had it skimmed off, revealing an incredibly potent, celestial scent. Jahangir was so enchanted by this discovery that he wrote in his memoirs (Tuzuk-e-Jahangiri) that there was no scent equal to it, noting that it restores the heart and brings back faded memories. Under Mughal patronage, Kannauj became the royal distillery. The emperors commissioned vast fields of winter-blooming roses to be distilled using the Deg-Bhakka method, creating liquid masterpieces that were kept in ornate, jewel-encrusted crystal vials (itrdans) and gifted to foreign dignitaries as the ultimate symbol of sophistication.
